The Fog Warning Blog

Built first for royalty…

… and now for you!

For you, that is, after these short detours captained by Chanel’s top supermodels:

Chanel could have chosen any luxury yacht in the world to anchor their new campaign to.

Chanel chose J Craft

The  J Craft Torpedo 42,  specifically.  And here at The Fog Warning, I follow suit (no fool, I).

I first came across – STRIKE THAT – fell head over heels in love with J Craft  in Monaco back in 2017. Long time readers of The Fog Warning know that I’ve been fortunate to work closely with some of the best luxury yacht builders on the planet. I never take these experiences for granted, and can’t imagine that I’ll ever become the least bit jaded by them. Well, that hot morning in Monaco J Craft grabbed me by the lapels and dragged me forcefully right into this world:

Five years later I remain astonished by what J Craft does. They really do build and deliver – in an oft-used but seldom realized phrase – a true one-of-a-kind yachting experience.  Actually, after running one of their six models in St. Tropez last summer …

… I remain even more swept away than upon first sight.

So much so that last month I travelled to Sweden’s island of Gotland to tour their factory and see what’s under the hood (40 knot IPS 650’s, if you must know). You can follow my education there in a bit, but let me present some highlights to you first:

  • The Torpedo 42 is the sole model J Craft builds. They have, historically, built just one a year for the last twenty years. Hull #1 was built with pride and dedication as a custom build for the King of Sweden (built first for royalty, get it?).

  • Since then, most have been build as tenders for the superest of gigayachts:

  • Each Torpedo is built by hand by J Craft’s local craftsman. And just about every inch of her is crafted from Swedish components. That starts with Volvo IPS engines of course, but continues on down the list to their custom stainless, glass, and other fittings. In fact the only significant non-Swedish part I’ve been able to identify is her Italian steering wheel, via Ferrari –

  • Even a short trip through her specifications and [limited] options list is like a walk down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées– Diamond stitched exterior cushions, interior fabrics by Hermès, and on and on. It quickly became clear to me why  so many owners of Heesen and Lürssen gigayachts chose J Craft’s as their luxury tenders.

Heesen and Lürssen chose J Craft

  • As you will see shortly in her construction video, it takes an industry leading 8,500 hours to build each one of these yachting marvels. And every hour shows in the finished product-

Today I am exceedingly thrilled and proud to add J Craft to The Fog Warning’s luxury dayboat collection. And to report that J Craft has expanded their production capabilities to meet the needs of the US marketplace. It is this wonderful convergence of opportunity that allows me to bring these most luxurious of luxury dayboats to you, my loyal clients. And, five years on, let me thank you for your patience!

If you would like to see a Torpedo 42 one with your own eyes – and perhaps run one – I have some options for you:

  • The 42 you’ll see under construction in the TFW YouTube Channel video will be displayed at the next Palm Beach Show. I look forward to climbing in, around and through this fine yacht with you in Florida next year.

  • If you can’t wait that long, and happen to be in the UK next week, J Craft is participating in a very special private (i.e. closed!) event at Kensington Palace Gardens. Fear not, I have your tickets into Goff’s thoroughbred auction on the eve of Royal Ascot (June 13th) to see our displayed J Craft. I’d be quite happy to meet you there, so just launch a flare for the details.

  • As mentioned above, I had a blast running J Craft’s (with just a little bit of partying thrown in) in St. Tropez last summer. Well, a repeat performance is available for you from this July 13th through the 31st. Again, just launch a flare to schedule your day. I’ll have the engines warmed up for you before you arrive dockside.

Well, you’ve been patient with me today. So here then are the videos I’ve been teasing you with:

First up is E2 from The Fog Warning’s YouTube channel:

And for, let us say, a more elegant tour, I direct you here:

Whether or not I see you in London next week, or in St. Tropez this July, I’d like to leave you with this closing thought today:

We now do our yachting in a world where even outboard-powered boats can easily break through the million-dollar mark. It’s in this brave new world that a J Craft’s fundamental value really shines through. Despite coming from a small builder, on a very small island in the middle of the Baltic Sea; Despite the 8,500 build hours of labor it takes to launch each beauty; Despite the dizzying choices offered you among the finest of materials, I find there is tremendous value embodied in these exciting luxury yachts. And when you see that value with your own eyes, her pricing aligns surprisingly well with the rest of the market.

“Built for royalty, and now for you!”

Chanel, Heesen and Lürssen  all chose J Craft

Just launch a flare to hear more about why, how (and for how much) you should choose J Craft as well.

Ciao for now….
